Our History

Wood Creek Water District was created on April 30th 1964 by a petition to the Laurel County Fiscal Court to provide water service to 600 people in the proposed service area. Construction of the distribution system started in 1967 & our water source (Wood Creek Lake) was impounded in 1969 by the construction of a rock-fill dam, 163 feet high & 800 feet in length across Wood Creek to provide a passageway for Interstate 75. Today Wood Creek Water District provides water service to 15,000 people in Northern Laurel County and Southern Jackson County. We are the service provider to East Laurel Water District in Eastern Laurel County and Northwestern Clay County serving 16,000 people as well as West Laurel Water Association in Southwestern Laurel County serving 14,700 people. We also provide wholesale water to parts of Rockcastle and Clay Counties.

Wood Creek Water District Wastewater Division was created on August 13, 2001 to provide watershed protection for our source water (Wood Creek Lake).  Today the wastewater division serves 3,900 people in Wood Creek Water District's service area as well as parts of East Laurel Water District's service area.  Wood Creek does not have a wastewater treatment plant, our wastewater is treated and disposed of by London Utility Commission.  We are always looking for ways to expand our wastewater system to broaden the protection of our water source.
